There is wisdom in observing what works.  Too many Nigerians in the UK try to reinvent the wheel, hustling blindly and failing to learn from those who have gone before. Case studies aren't only for school; real-world examples may help you focus your vision, eliminate mistakes, and create a plan for success.  Their tales are important, whether it's someone who converted a modest cleaning business into a national franchise, or a single mother who went from caring for children to owning her own nursery.  Study them.

Start by recognising Nigerians who are doing well in your field of interest.  Observe how they moved.  Which courses did they take?  What licenses did they need?  How did they promote their businesses or change careers? The internet is full of interviews, panel sessions, YouTube documentaries, and even TikTok clips where people share their journey. Don’t scroll for entertainment alone; scroll for information. Success always leaves clues.

And don't only look at the glamorous stories.  Study the failures as well.  Why did the hair salon close after two years?  Why did that food business struggle despite its excellent taste?  Learn what not to do.  Perhaps they overlooked customer service or failed to comply with regulations.  In any case, learn from the experiences of others so that you do not pay the same price.

To learn from others, you do not need to know them personally.  But, if possible, get close.  Ask questions.  Join forums and business associations.  Many successful Nigerians in the UK are willing to mentor or advise if approached with humility and intention.  If you can't locate someone in your industry, learn from someone outside of it.  Strategy is universal.

The goal is not to compare, but to become informed.  Be alert.  Be teachable.  Be intentional.  Every breakthrough has a backstory.  Examine them.  Most individuals did not have it easy, but they were strategic.  You can be, too.  Learn the playbook, apply it to your own trip, and go with confidence.
