When you Japa, everything in your life resets.  Your location changes.  Your community shifts.  And, most significantly, your values are tested.  Choosing a life mate in this new territory is not a romantic fantasy; it is a calculated choice. Don't let loneliness, societal pressure, or culture shock push you to do something you'll later regret. Marriage overseas is a different ballgame.  You need someone who knows your situation, not simply your culture.

The incorrect companion can wreck your plans.  The appropriate one can improve your vision.  Consider whether this person is capable of handling pressure.  Can they manage their finances wisely?  Are they willing to grow, sacrifice, and hustle?  Compatibility is more than just ‘we're both Nigerians.’  You must have alignment in vision, values, and adaptability.  The UK system is structured differently.

Do not be deceived by accents or appearances.  Look beyond the wedding photos.  Observe how they treat others.  Examine how they respond to stress.  Are they blamers or builders?  Do they promote or discourage your dreams?  Many individuals overseas marry for documents, coercion, or pity, only to be shackled by pain. Be intentional.  Choose wisely.

Also, consider the legal ramifications.  Understand your rights, the importance of prenuptial agreements, and what happens if things go wrong.  Protect yourself, both emotionally and legally.  Marriage is more than just between two people in this society; it is also a contractual agreement that is taken seriously. This is not Nigeria, where elders can interfere; instead, the system will.

Choose a spouse who brings tranquilly, not pressure.  Who builds rather than breaks.  Someone who can confront life alongside you, not just pose for photos.  Your companion should amplify your strength, not divide your attention.  Abroad is already difficult.  Don't complicate things with a bad decision.
